Learning objectives
By the end of the session, all learners will be able to:

  1. Link their observations completed in their placement to Development Matters 2023, to clearly define the importance of meeting curriculum requirements when understanding children.
  2. Explore the importance of CPD and how this impacts our professional development in Early Years or primary Education.

Slide 2 - Slide

Starter - Connect
(1) As a group we will watch the video about CPD and its importance in academia.

(2) You will then discuss and feedback why you think CPD is important for your professional development.

The importance of CPD
There are many reasons CPD is important when working in any form of academia, it enables you as a professional to engage in on going knowledge and to be aware of current and on going updates.
  1. It helps us maintain up to date knowledge around early years or educational updates.
  2. Supports you in adhering to framework requirements / curriculum standards
  3. As a leader or an educator it enables you to support others in your team.
  4. It promotes the best outcome for children and families to ensure all of their needs are met.
  5. CPD can be with professional bodies, training courses, team meeting's or simply through academic reading.
  6. Keeps you updated with legislation requirements
  7. Supports OFSTED readiness
  8. Improves your contribution to the work environment and your own skills
  9. Supports progression on to other routes you may wish to pursue.

Class Task
On google classroom I have created a CPD
table to help you understand why we might
engage in CPD and its importance as
developing EYE's.

Spend time completing this table.

Save it in your performance outcome 3 folder.
We will also be printing this to add to our
CPD table's.

Other ways you may engage in CPD
  • Visits to other provisions or setting's
  • Shadowing or observing other professionals.
  • Self direct learning, reading and researching.
  • Feedback from others (constructive support)
  • Focused reflections (you learnt about reflective models in Element 9.
  • Learning or academic journals / logs

Observations
For your project work you have been completing 3 x observations on your selected child.

It is important we are able to link to curriculum requirements.
You will now spend time linking all 3 observations individually to Development Matters 2023 Milestones.

You need to save each table in your google drive.
& print them for your project based learning!
